The 2024 U.S. presidential debates are a key series of events leading up to the election. The first general election debate took place on June 27, 2024, and was sponsored by CNN. It featured then-presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden and presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump. Following a lackluster performance by Biden, he withdrew from the race on July 21, and Kamala Harris was selected as the Democratic nominee, while Trump officially became the Republican nominee.

The second debate, sponsored by ABC, is scheduled for September 10, 2024.

Initially, four debates were planned by the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) to occur between September 16 and October 9, 2024. However, both Biden and Trump objected to the CPD’s format and schedule. As a result, the campaigns agreed to bypass the CPD’s debates and organize alternative debates instead, leading to the cancellation of the CPD events. Biden's performance in the first debate prompted significant criticism, leading to his withdrawal from the race in July 21.
