Kehlani has made headlines once again with the debut of their latest mixtape, While We Wait 2, on Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart. This marks Kehlani's second entry of 2024 on the chart, with the new project landing at No. 20. Notably, this is the first time a Kehlani release—be it a mixtape or album—has not opened in the top 10.

In contrast, While We Wait (2019) debuted at No. 1, becoming Kehlani’s second project to top the chart. Their recent album, Crash, which sold 19,668 equivalent units in its first week, debuted at No. 9 on the Top R&B Albums chart, performing notably higher.

Here’s a look at Kehlani's Billboard R&B Albums chart achievements, ranked by their highest position:

In addition to the mixtape's chart position, the lead single “When He’s Not There” featuring Lucky Daye has debuted at No. 11 on the Hot R&B Songs chart. This makes it Kehlani’s second-highest debut on the chart this year, following “After Hours” from Crash, which initially debuted at No. 7 and reached No. 4 in May. Kehlani has also had three other entries on this chart this year.

Released on August 28, While We Wait 2 follows Kehlani’s 2019 project of the same name and includes collaborations with Dixson, FLO, Lil’ Mo, Destin Conrad, Vince Staples, LUDMILLA, kwn, and Childofnines.

The mixtape comes right after Crash, which was released on June 21, 2024. Kehlani is currently on a North American tour, powered by Live Nation, to support both Crash and While We Wait 2. The tour, featuring special guests FLO and Anycia, runs through November 2.
